A Clinical Observation of Otitis Media with Effusion

Abstract
|
|
|
The author experienced 110 patients of otitis media with effusion from Jan., 1985 to Dec., 1987 and the results were as follows;
1) The sex distribution showed 64 male cases and 46 female cases and bilateral effusion was more frequent than one side.
2) The 67 patients were attacked in spring and winter (61 %).
3) In the preoperative tympanogram, there were 10 %with type A, 77 %with type B and 13 % with type C.
4) The rhinitis and sinusitis (56 %) were considered as the main preceeding diseases.
5) Drum retraction was seen in 53 % and turbid drum without retraction in 18 %.
6) The nature of middle ear fluid was 48 % serous exudate, 36 % mucoid exudate, 2 % purulent exudate and 14 % scanty or no fluid.
7) The 56 patients were treated with myringotomy and ventilation tube insertion.
